Full Frontal Celebrates the 4th by Reminding You America Is Worth Fighting For

Recommended Videos

Happy Birthday America! Today, Full Frontal with Samantha Bee released a Youtube clip for Independence Day and it begins with Stacey Abrams, who’s close to becoming America’s first black female governor, being asked, “Do you think there’s hope in 2018?”

Her response is, “Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, we simply have to be willing to work for it.”

The message of the video is that while it might be easy or tempting to lose all hope, there are still many people out there fighting to have their voice heard and we should join them. The caption reads, “In honor of the 4th of July, a little reminder that the best way to celebrate America and fight for the things you believe in is to vote!” Just recently, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez spoke about the huge amount of outreach she was doing in her bid for Congress. “There’s the big thing—polling, people try to identify who’s the most likely person to turn out,” said Ocasio-Cortez, “and what we did is that we changed who turns out and that changes the whole election.”

“America is still a great country, and it is still worth fighting for”, says host Samantha bee. “It has Shonda Rhimes shows and peanut butter and Beyoncé and Lin Manuel-Miranda rap-weeping at award shows.”

The video also shows us various clips from interviews by correspondents Ashley Nicole Black and Mike Rubens, voter outreach, and even a catchy tune from Bee about the importance of voting. I can’t wait for the full length version to drop, but here’s the bit in GIF form:

Happy 4th everyone!
