Channing Tatum’s Gambit Will Be “a Heist Movie & a Sexy Thriller”
There are two types of people in this world: those who don’t understand the appeal of Gambit, and those who want to have sex with Gambit. I kid, I kid — but let’s not deny that a big part of Gambit’s fandom revolves around his sex appeal. The creators of the upcoming Gambit feature film seem well-aware of that fact; after all, they cast noted sex symbol Channing Tatum in the lead, and now producer Simon Kinberg’s telling Collider how “sexy” the movie’s going to be:
The X-Men movies are dramatic and almost operatic, whereas Deadpool is irreverent and hysterical and sort of a dirty R-rated comedy in many ways. And Gambit will have its own different flavor and tone to it, will be more of like a heist movie and a sexy thriller in a way.
The only problem with this pitch is that I just can’t seem to keep the knowledge in my head that Channing Tatum is Gambit. It’s as though every time I read about it, it’s another “ohhhh, right” moment all over again. Maybe it’s because his rising star seems to be waning a bit, or maybe it’s because I just can’t imagine him doing the accent — and apparently Tatum’s been having some trouble figuring that part out, too.
I do like heist movies — the all-too-brief heist elements in Ant-Man almost saved that movie for me (… almost). Still, I’m not sold on this pitch yet. What do you all think?
