Game/Show Challenges the Idea That the Xbox One/PlayStation 4 Resolution Difference Even Matters
Neither of them has blast processing, though, so who cares?
The Internet has been all over the graphical difference between the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One recently. Those of us who remember the Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo (or any other console launch) have heard this argument before, but the fact that gamers still argue over these things might be a bigger problem than graphics themselves.
As PBS Game/Show points out, graphics don’t need to be super realistic to immerse players in a great game. For those paying attention, they also give a pretty sly demonstration that the main difference between the two systems, that the Xbox runs some games in 720p while the PS4 runs them in 1080p, is highly unlikely to even be noticeable unless you’re specifically looking for it on a seriously giant TV.
It’d be convenient to just blame the game companies for focusing so much of their efforts on visuals, but they’re just marketing towards what their demographics seem to be interested in. If gamers really want the industry to improve and offer us better games instead of better graphics, we need to be the ones to stop arguing about which console displays a higher resolution.
Of course, all of this is part of an even bigger conversation about how the fans need to put an end to the console wars by stopping all of the needless bickering that causes these issues to become issues in the first place, but an end to arguing over graphics would be a step in the right direction.

- Sony has bigger problems with the PlayStation 4, like live streaming assault
- This re-imagines the console war with giant robots, which is way more fun
- Game/Show also things hard games are way more fun, and we have to agree
