Geoff Johns Will Reportedly Oversee DC Movies After Batman v Superman Disappointment
Warner Bros. looked up and shouted, "Save us!" Geoff Johns whispered, "Sure, OK."
After Batman v Superman and the massive negative reaction it garnered—though it still has its fans—rumors have been flying that Warner Bros. will somehow shake things up behind the scenes in order to course-correct. The suggestion has mostly been “fire Zack Snyder,” which still doesn’t seem likely, but now The Hollywood Reporter says multiple sources have told them that steps are being taken to solidify a potentially more popular creative vision—with the help of Geoff Johns.
Johns—DC Comics’ chief creative officer, who’s had a hand in the success of their TV content—won’t be alone, with Warner Bros. Executive VP Jon Berg sharing the role of overseeing DC movies. Johns was already an executive producer on Batman v Superman, and Berg had a hand in that as well as other upcoming DC movies. However, in the wake of BvS not being quite the home run Warner Bros. was looking for, THR reports that they’ll be tasked with unifying the creative vision of the DC film arm of Warner as part of a larger restructuring of the studio.
The upcoming Flash movie will also get a new, more seasoned director to replace screenwriter and would-be first time director Seth Grahame-Smith and better ensure the movie’s success. Meanwhile, Suicide Squad, due out in August, has been undergoing changes and reshoots during post production, which Johns has been involved in, as well as co-writing Ben Affleck’s standalone Batman movie.
