Here’s How You Can See Get Out For Free in Theaters This President’s Day
To mark the one-year anniversary of Get Out‘s release, AMC Theatres will host free President’s Day screenings across the United States. The screenings are scheduled for February 19, 2018 at 7PM local time, and you can find one near you at GetOutOneYearLater.com.
Free tickets will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. They can be picked up from participating theaters when the box office opens on February 19. That’s the Monday, so I know it might be tricky for anyone who doesn’t have the day off to get to the box office in time. The website also says that “guest can redeem up to one (1) ticket to see Get Out,” so you may not be able to get tickets for your friends if you go, either. I’m not quite about that language.

As part of the anniversary celebration, Universal Pictures also put out the video at the top of this article, which celebrates all the fan art that the film inspired. “The crop that was coming in was beautiful, beautiful, intricate masterworks,” said writer-director Jordan Peele. “And as I started re-posting them on my Instagram, more started coming in. And that, to me, was just the most touching and amazing thing … Their work inspires me, and it feels like a collaboration.” In the video, many of the artists explain what the film meant to them, and why they felt compelled to add their own art to that conversation.
Get Out was one of the most popular and critically acclaimed films of the year, so I’m glad that Universal is putting this campaign behind it. Get Out has already won an entire Wikipedia article‘s worth of awards, and it’s also been nominated for four Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Original Screenplay. One hopes that an event like this will put some momentum behind its Oscar campaign.
Then again, we all know how the Academy tends to vote …
