Good News, Get Out Fans! Jordan Peele Has a Whole Series of Horror Movies Planned
You’ve seen Jordan Peele’s Get Out already, right? His directorial debut (which he also wrote) has been out only a week and it’s destroying the box office, has a 100% 99% (because someone always has to come ruin the party, don’t they?) rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and has fully proven that Peele isn’t just a brilliant comedian, but also potentially one of the most talented and insightful filmmakers of our time.
If you haven’t seen the movie yet, we won’t spoil anything (seriously, though, go see it right now!), but the premise tackles some terrifying elements of being black in America, as told through an edge-of-your-seat horror movie lens. And now Peele, who has spoken many times about the power of horror, like comedy “to provoke thought and further the conversation on real social issues in a very powerful way,” has given us some fantastic news.
In a recent interview with Business Insider, he revealed that Get Out wasn’t his only idea in this vein. He has a whole collection of similar movies he wants to make, each one tackling a different “social demon.”
I have four other social thrillers that I want to unveil in the next decade. The best and scariest monsters in the world are human beings and what we are capable of especially when we get together. I’ve been working on these premises about these different social demons, these innately human monsters that are woven into the fabric of how we think and how we interact, and each one of my movies is going to be about a different one of these social demons.
Given how incisively Peele tackled the social demons of Get Out, we should probably prepare ourselves for a full decade of brilliant, painful societal reflection.
What “demons” are you hoping to see explored?
