Okay, here’s a thing that has millions of things wrong with it. Ghost, a tragic, Oscar-winning movie about a dead man’s refusal to cross over and leave his beloved, grieving be-pixied fiancée alone on Earth — but as a flashy, upbeat stage musical! No. Just no. No, no, no, no, no. First of all, too soon after Patrick Swayze has left us. Yes, it is still too soon. At least it is for something like this. Also, Ghost was defined by its use of the beautiful classic Righteous Brothers song, “Unchained Melody.” And here, it is not only overwhelmed by insane music, but it is imprisoned in an old radio on top of the fridge, and possibly not even being played at the right time. What the hell is that? And what is happening with Oda Mae Brown? Did someone think that just because Whoopi Goldberg played her that her character needed a number in the style of Sister Act? That’s just lazy writing.
Also: dancing stockbrokers. Dancing without a hint of irony. Yup.
