Watch This Video of a Giant Squid and Contemplate How Small You Are in the Universe or Something

Release the kraken!

Do you feel small when you stand beside the ocean? How about if we put a squid in there that grows up to 43 feet long?

This one spotted in Toyama Bay in Japan wasn’t quite that large, but it still made an impression on onlookers. The 3.7-meter-long squid was guided back out to sea by a diver, who told CNN,

My curiosity was way bigger than fear, so I jumped into the water and go close to it.

This squid was not damaged and looked lively, spurting ink and trying to entangle his tentacles around me. I guided the squid toward to the ocean, several hundred meters from the area it was found in, and it disappeared into the deep sea.

As the new year approaches, use this video of the majestic deep sea creature to understand the wonders often hidden on our own planet, let alone out in the Universe. Truly, we live in an extraordinary place with many new things left to explore in the coming year—and years—ahead.

Or at least things that can fill a year-end-holiday news gap until something besides Star Wars happens.
