Stephen Colbert Takes a Shot at Marvel for Iron Man 3 Villain Gender Swap
"Girls don't play with dolls."
Stephen Colbert had some choice words for Marvel during a segment on The Late Show last night. He was responding to the story that came out yesterday regarding Marvel Corporate’s decision to alter the script of Iron Man 3 to change the gender of its villain. Originally, Aldrich Killian was written to be a woman, but as director Shane Black tells it, Marvel Corporate felt that if Killian was a woman, the toys wouldn’t sell as well. Colbert took a shot at Marvel for that logic, saying, “Come on, come on, it makes sense, girls don’t play with dolls.”
Burn, Marvel Corporate. You going to need some ointment for that? Colbert goes on to turn his sights onto other film franchises that are “total sausagefests,” which is how he described Civil War. As well, he (playfully) gave other examples of villains who were genderswapped at the last second by corporate entities. The video’s definitely worth checking out if only for his parting shot at Fantastic Four at the end.
