Godzilla Gets the Respect He Deserves as Japan Makes Him a Citizen and Tourism Ambassador

“RAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWRRRRRRNNNNNNNNNhhhhhh!” Godzilla said in a statement to the press.
Being King of Monsters is great and all, but Godzilla’s over 60 now, and it was time for him to settle into an official role somewhere that isn’t just a nebulous group of giant destructive beasts. That place is Tokyo’s Shinjuku Ward, where Godzilla has visited several times in the past and finally settled down atop the area’s Toho Cinema Complex, where he’ll welcome tourists:
Because if there’s anything that makes an area welcoming, it’s giant monsters.
Anime News Network reports that the Ambassador of Monsters was given official citizenship papers that are available upon request for the first 3,000 fans who dare question the legitimacy of his residency. The papers read:
Name: Godzilla
Address: Shinjuku-ku, Kabuki-cho, 1-19-1
Date of birth: April 9, 1954 [the year of the release of the very first Godzilla film]
Date of becoming a Shinjuku resident: April 9, 2015
Reason for special residency: Promoting the entertainment of and watching over the Kabuki-cho neighborhood and drawing visitors from around the globe in the form of the Godzilla head built atop the Shinjuku TOHO Building.
Previous visits to Shinjuku Ward: 3 times; Godzilla (1984), Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah (1991), Godzilla 2000 Millennium (1999)
He looks great overlooking the city, but as a tourism ambassador, it might be wise to do something about his breath. Word is it’s kind of nuclear. (Sorry. I’m done now.)
