Last Friday we reported that BBC Radio would be collaborating with Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman on an audio drama adaptation of Good Omens, and as proof we now present the first official cast photo! According to the press release, the radio play has already started recording in “a secret London location” (it’s happening! It’s really happening!) and stars
Colin Morgan (Merlin, The Fall) as Newton Pulsifer, Josie Lawrence (Skins, EastEnders) as Agnes Nutter and Paterson Joseph (Peep Show, Green Wing) as Famine, as well as a host of delightful cameos, from the Gardeners’ Question Time team to Neil and Terry themselves. Other cameos are set to delight listeners, but they are under wraps for now. Probably in a dusty occult bookshop in Covent Garden, but no-one is quite sure […] Mark Heap (Spaced, Green Wing, Stardust) and Peter Serafinowicz (Guardians of the Galaxy, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, Shaun of the Dead) will be taking the central roles as angel and demon, Aziraphale and Crowley, respectively.
Notable members of the cast with as-yet-unnamed parts include Clive Russell (Game of Thrones) Julia Deakin (Spaced, Hot Fuzz), Louise Brealey (Sherlock), and Simon Jones (Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy). That’s an impressively credentialed crew; so much so I can almost forget about the 2005 Terry Gilliam-directed adaptation that Neil Gaiman confirmed yesterday would have happened if not for a lack of funding:
Yes. RT @Reidbynature: Was it true that Robin Williams was considered for starring in an adaptation of Good Omens opposite Johnny Depp? — Neil Gaiman (@neilhimself) September 6, 2014
Sigh. At least we’ll always have Colin Morgan as Newton. Tor.com says Good Omens will be released near Christmas this year, so brace yourselves for some interesting conversations with curious family members. I can’t wait!
