Google Celebrates Selena Quintanilla: The Tejano Queen
Today’s Google Doodle is the amazing, the legend, the icon: Selena Quintanilla.
Taken from us far too soon, Selena remains a pop culture and musical maverick for anyone who loves beautiful music and amazing style. Selena was the first Tejano singer to win a Grammy for her album “Live!” in 1993 for Best Mexican/American album. The song that plays during the video is “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom,” one of her most iconic hits, and the illustrations show Selena first as a young girl singing with a hairbrush, through her development into the star she became alongside her family.
Suzette Quintanilla, Selena’s older sister and bandmate, spoke with Talks at Google about celebrating her sister’s legacy and everything Selena has meant to music and Mexican/Latinx culture throughout the world.
October 17th marks the anniversary of her debut self-entitled album Selena which came out in 1989.
What are some of your favorite Selena songs and performances? Mine is “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom” Live From Astrodome in the ICONIC purple jumpsuit.
