Game Of Thrones Casting News: The Mountain That Smiles & A Friend For Arya?
Winter Is Coming
While villages in the UK are busy renaming themselves King’s Landing in anticipation of Game of Thrones’ new season, we’re keeping our ear to the ground on just where the next season will take us. Needless to say (or should that be Needle-less?), if you thought Arya was badass already, a new casting item may mean she’s about to take it up a notch. Find out more, plus a look at our new Mountain after the cut.
Game of Thrones has had to do a bit up shuffling when it comes to casting of Gregor Clegane, aka The Mountain, through no fault of their own. Originally played by Conan Stevens, replaced for scheduling reasons in season two with Ian Whyte., and missing from Season 3, Season 4 will see actor Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson take on the role for some bigger action than just standing around looking menacing. Anyway, the actor posted a shot of himself on instagram in costume and looking the opposite of menacing.
In other GoT news, according to the eagle eyes at Ours is the Fury, actor Gary Oliver’s CV lists him as playing a “Braavosi Captain” in Season 4. It also says he’ll be in an Alex Graves-directed episode, of which there are four this year, but IMDB places Oliver specifically in episode 10. Our speculation? He’ll be the one who sails Arya away from the main action of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire novels, and into Braavos where she’ll not only become someone else (again) but pick up a new trade. Though if this takes place in episode 10 of Season 4, it would leave a lot of story wide open for Arya’s character, and the captain of the ship is given the name Ternesio Terys in the novels, so it could be someone else entirely but that’s our best guess.
