You revealed in our end-of-summer movie survey that you really, really liked Guardians of the Galaxy, and as it happens the rest of the world does, too.

With this weekend bringing its gross up to $262.1 million, Guardians of the Galaxy is now the highest-grossing movie of 2014, at least domestically. Second placer Captain America: The Winter Soldier still holds the worldwide gross crown, with $714 million to Guardians‘ $504.7 million, but Guardians has yet to come out in several countries (China, Japan, Italy), while everyone who wanted to see Steve and Bucky’s tragic BFFitude on the big screen has had the chance to do so one or five times.

As Collider points out, Guardians has some competition in the hungry-for-world-domination The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1. Its predecessor Catching Fire was the highest-grossing film at the domestic box office last year, beating Iron Man 3 by about $15.5 million. With no 3D surcharges, at that! (Though Tony Stark kicked some major ass internationally, earning $1.2 billion to Catching Fire‘s $864.5 million.) Interstellar and The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies are also looking to rake in the dough later this year, but unless someone at Legendary or New Line makes a sacrifice to Satan, neither of them will probably be able to take the box office crown, domestic or international.

Whaddaya say? Guardians or Mockingjay – Part One? Who’s gonna take it? Will all those people plopping down money for multiple tickets to see Natalie Dormer’s hairdo be enough to push Katniss over the edge?
