James Gunn Shows “Groot Version” of Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Script and Teases Footage
We are Groot all over again.
There’s a lot still under wraps about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, as with any Marvel project, but we’re closer at this point to the sequel’s 2017 release than the original’s in 2014 (when did that happen?), and details are finally starting to trickle out. We’ve already heard about the casting of Star Lord’s father, and now director James Gunn himself as a few Vin Diesel-related tidbits to share.
Above, you can see the title page of the “Groot version” of the GotG2 script, which isn’t what it sounds like—that being the entire script replaced with “I am Groot”—as masterful a trolling as that would be. It’s quite the opposite, in fact; all of Groot’s lines are translated into English, which is surely helpful for Vin Diesel as he tries to strike just the right tone for all the different ways he has to say, “I am Groot,” including foreign languages.
This is the same approach they took the first time around, and we’ll probably never know what’s written in that script, but we’ll hear it in Diesel’s performance. It’ll also feel like forever before we get to know what GotG2 footage Vin Diesel is reacting to in this Facebook video—footage even the rest of the cast hasn’t seen yet—but he certainly seems to think that we’re in for a treat.
