Gotham‘s Second Season Adds Gender-Flipped Firefly
I’m still mourning the absence of Fish Mooney (however terribly her character might have been written near the end of last season), but Gotham has announced a new villain that might fill the Fish-sized hole in my heart.
According to Comics Alliance, Michelle Veintimilla will guest-star in episodes 5 and 6 of this season as a gender-swapped Firefly. In grand Gotham tradition, the character’s name has been changed to Bridgit Pike, instead of the comics’ Garfield Lynns.
Via TVLine, here’s Firefly’s official description:
Enslaved by her brothers, a notorious gang of arsonists, Bridgit Pike is forced into the family business. When she catches the eye of Selina Kyle, the young Cat Woman and the soon-to-be-Firefly team up to put Bridgit’s firestarting skills to good use. But after a deadly encounter with the Pike Brothers, the meek Cinderella is transformed into a vengeful supervillain, hell bent on destroying those who have wronged her.
That synopsis definitely makes me concerned that Firefly could fall into some really tired tropes, especially considering Gotham doesn’t have the best track record of positive female representation. Still, it’s exciting to see another lady character joining the series.
