Gotham Gets A Riddler, Fantastic Four Casts Doctor Doom, And More DC/Marvel News
All the comic book adaptation news that’s fit to print (and some that’s not)!
On the Marvel side of things, the Fantastic Four reboot has finally named its Doctor Doom. Variety says actor Toby Kebbell has won the role, which actors Sam Riley, Eddie Redmayne, and Domhnall Gleeson were previously said to be up for as well. Kebbell’s notable films include Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, and The East but he’ll also be playing Koba in the upcoming Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.
In Marvel Entertainment movie news, House of Cards’ Corey Stoll is said to be in talks for an unspecified Ant-Man role, and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is hinting at more action for Hawkeye and The Hulk in The Avengers: Age of Ultron.
“Part of the fun of Age of Ultron was saying, you’ve seen another Iron Man adventure before, you see another Thor adventure and another Cap adventure, but we haven’t seen the Green Goliath again,” he told JoBlo.com when asked if a Hulk solo film with Mark Ruffalo was in the cards, “So that was important in the characters you haven’t seen – Hulk being one of them and Hawkeye being one of them – Ultron will make up for it. They have very big parts in Age of Ultron.”
Onto DC/Warner Bros. projects, Corey Michael Smith has just been named Gotham’s Riddler, aka Edward Nigma.

Smith starred with Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke on Broadway in Breakfast at Tiffany’s but has very few film roles to his name. Entertainment Weekly writes, “In the Fox project from showrunner Bruno Heller (Rome), Nygma is a brilliant young forensic scientist working for Gotham PD and a penchant for speaking in … rather cryptic language. Inquisitive, eccentric and outgoing — yet socially awkward — he wants to be liked, but he doesn’t quite know how.”
I’m sensing this character description could go very, very bad but here’s hoping it doesn’t. Speaking of bad…
David Goyer recently spoke with Collider about interest in doing a Green Lantern film:
I would love to do ‘Green Lantern. I really wanted to showcase Krypton as a truly alien world. That was one of the things I wanted to do from the beginning when I got involved in the project. At his heart, Superman’s always been a science fiction story. I wanted to lean into that, and so did Chris, and so did Zack, so I was just glad we were able to.
And while we’re on the topic of Man of Steel, Russell Crowe told Yahoo he likely won’t be back for the sequel, “I don’t think they’re going to use me again. I think they’re jumping onto a different stream… You know, they’re going with the different superhero worlds colliding [this time].”
Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara said some interesting things to the NY Times about Harry Potter recently but in the same interview touched on DC Comics film projects. NYT writes, “Two new television shows are coming to the CW and Fox, including one based on the Flash and another on a young Batman, and a film series will be announced in the near future, Mr. Tsujihara said. It is expected to include a ‘Justice League’ movie.”
