PBS to Air Hamilton Musical Behind-The-Scenes Documentary
Dear Hamilton fandom: get excited. Apparently PBS will be airing a documentary that goes behind-the-scenes of the Hamilton musical. Titled Hamilton’s America, the documentary will pull back the curtain on what went into making the incredibly popular and much beloved musical. Additionally, the doc will follow the musical’s also much beloved creator, Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Miranda had this to say about the documentary:
On behalf of the entire ‘Hamilton’ cast and creative team, many of whom are ‘In The Heights’ alumni, we are overjoyed to be returning to PBS in partnership with RadicalMedia with this project. We invited filmmaker Alex Horwitz into ‘the room where it happened’ a few years ago, and he’s captured parts of this journey no one has seen. We can’t wait to share it, thanks to PBS.
Executive producer Dave Sirulnick shared some more details about what’s going into the documentary, saying:
This is one of the rare experiences in our current digital age that can only be seen in it’s entirety, in one theater in one city, and that runs counter to much of the ubiquity of the digital-sharing age that we live in. And that is fascinating. The documentary ‘Hamilton’s America’ will bring people into the theater with new footage of the musical, and along for the bold creative journey that it took to get there.
While I haven’t personally seen Hamilton or listened to its soundtrack (I know, tragic), I can tell from the fandom’s incredible response to the musical that it’s something not to be missed. What do you think, friends? Will you be tuning in to check out Hamilton’s America?
