Hamilton‘s Newest Digital Ham4Ham Honors Deaf Awareness Week
You've never seen "Cabinet Battle #2" performed like this.
While Hamilton decided to end its popular in-person “Ham4Ham” lottery a couple months ago, the show promised to continue the occasional performances that had originally been performed live in an online format.
Since then, there have been some wonderful treats for Hamilton fans shared by the casts–including this rendition of the show’s Schuyler Sisters (Renée Elise Goldsberry, Lexi Lawson and Jasmine Cephas-Jones) performing “Out Tonight” from the musical Rent–and using the Hamilton stage in a way it’s never been used before.
This week, which is also known as Deaf Awareness Week, the Hamilton cast combined forces with members of the New York Deaf Theatre for a powerful take on the song “Cabinet Battle #2”, which was released on Wednesday:
In a statement on their blog, the New York Deaf Theatre expressed their appreciation at being “the first Deaf artists to appear on the #Ham4Ham show, and we thank the Hamilton family for inviting us to the ‘Room Where It Happens’.” Now, fans are inquiring as to whether or not this single performance could indicate a future for an entirely deaf production of Hamilton–and this Ham4Ham is evidence that it would make for a powerful variant on a ground-breaking musical.
