Hamilton‘s Daveed Diggs Joins Sesame Street‘s Noodle Family, Shows Rubber Ducky Some Love

Recommended Videos

You haven’t really made it until you appear on Sesame Street. Well, it looks like Daveed Diggs has finally made it.

OK, OK, so being the fastest rapper on Broadway in Hamilton and winning a Tony for his efforts means he’d already sort-of made it, but Sesame Street solidifies it. Watch and squee as Diggs sings the classic “Rubber Ducky” song you know and love, while totally (and inevitably) giving it a little hip-hop flavor.

Now, you may be wondering, Why the big-ass bow tie? Well, other than being a totally brave sartorial choice, he’s wearing it because in Sesame Street‘s upcoming Season 47, Diggs will be a part of the Noodle family!

You all know Mr. Noodle, right? Played by the legendary Bill Irwin? Well for this season of the show, the segment in which he usually appears, “Elmo’s World,” is getting an overhaul. Irwin will still be playing Mr. Noodle, but he will be joined in 25 five-minute installments by Diggs and comedian Daniel Koren as Mr. Noodle’s two brothers!

Brown Johnson, EVP and Creative Director of Sesame Workshop, said in a statement, “Kids love to learn with Elmo, and they are sure to enjoy the beautiful new chalk-drawn world Elmo creates in his imagination. We are also thrilled to be working with the legendary ‘original’ Mr. Noodle, Bill Irwin, and proud to bring two new diverse and multi-talented Mr. Noodles into our ‘World.'”

Sesame Street will be focusing on a kindness curriculum this season, in an effort to instill in preschoolers the importance of helping others. That, plus the diversity of the cast, which has always been something Sesame Street has been great at, gives me hope for the future. Hell, these are lessons grown-ups could stand a refresher course on these days.

Season 47 of Sesame Street started this weekend. To catch Diggs’ episode, you can check out your local PBS station on March 4th!
