Hannibal Buress Continues to Crush It, Joins Cast of Spider-Man: Homecoming
So he's playing J. Jonah Jameson, right?
Variety reports that Hannibal Buress has officially joined the cast of Spider-Man: Homecoming as a last-minute addition. There’s no word on what role he’ll be taking on, which seems to be par for the course for a lot of the talent involved in this project, which has begun to take on a bit of a J.J. Abrams “mystery box”-style tilt. Buress will be joining newcomers Donald Glover, Zendaya, Tony Revolori, and Kenneth Choi. Tom Holland will be back as Spider-Man, of course, with Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man, and Marissa Tomei as Aunt May. Michael Keaton will be taking on the villain role, though it’s unclear which villain he’ll be.
The only confirmed characters are Holland’s Spider-Man, Downey’s Stark, and Tomei’s Aunt May, which leaves much of the supporting cast around Peter Parker unrevealed. What’s especially striking about the cast is that it’s fairly diverse, so it might be a fair bet to think that we’ll see some black faces take on some historically white roles. Believe me, this is excellent.
Buress’ role, though? Well. You know who I’d love to see Buress play? J. Jonah Jameson. Can you imagine? Just think about him bringing his Broad City-style deadpan dry wit to the normally furiously hotheaded Jameson role. Gosh, I can’t even imagine how hilarious he would be there.
Well, whatever he ends up doing, I’m personally just glad he’s on the cast along with the other fantastic folks who are along for the ride.
