The Most Uplifting Playlist Ever, According to Science
Apparently Queen’s song “Don’t Stop Me Now” is scientifically proven to lift your spirits, which anecdotal evidence had proven true for decades past, but which cognitive neuroscientist Dr. Jacob Jolij has also determined with hard data. According to Dr. Jolij’s research, songs that have a tempo of 150 beats per minute, positive lyrics, and a third major key all contribute to the listener’s sense of well-being while listening.
Songs written in that style were much more popular in the early 80s than they are today, so almost all of the entrants on Jolij’s feel-good top 10 list hail from that time period. The rest of the list features “Walking on Sunshine” by Katrina & the Waves, “I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor, and tons of other tracks you’ll likely recognize if you’re an 80s fan. If you need a pick-me-up today, give Dr. Jolij’s playlist a listen!
