Alternate Cinco de Mayo Activity: Hellboy in Mexico (Or, A Drunken Blur)

Recommended Videos

Looking for something to help you celebrate Cinco de Mayo that won’t end with you emptying the contents of your stomach (equal parts margarita and microwave burritos) into what you hope is an appropriate receptacle?  It’s cool, us too.  And we have the perfect solution!  Head on down to your local comic store and pick up a copy of Hellboy in Mexico (Or, A Drunken Blur), written by Mike Mignola and drawn by Richard Corben. The story features everyone’s favorite Antichrist, demons, Mexican wrestlers, and Ape Sapien.  There might even be tentacles.

The last time Mignola worked on a Hellboy story it was 2008, so Hellboy in Mexico is something of an anticipated release, even leaving aside its spot on, pitch perfect title.  The book comes in two variant covers, one in Spanish.  You can check out a preview of the first six pages at Comic Book Resources.

And if you’re looking for the lowdown on exactly what Cinco de Mayo is and how it came to be, look no further than this link right here, brought to our attention by Neatorama.

Susana Polo thought she'd get her Creative Writing degree from Oberlin, work a crap job, and fake it until she made it into comics. Instead she stumbled into a great job: founding and running this very website (she's Editor at Large now, very fancy). She's spoken at events like Geek Girl Con, New York Comic Con, and Comic Book City Con, wants to get a Batwoman tattoo and write a graphic novel, and one of her canine teeth is in backwards.
