Today In News We Did Not Expect: Heroes Is Coming Back
Save The Cheerleader Save The World
Yeah. We’re surprised, too.
During last night’s Olympic coverage, NBC announced that Heroes will return as a stand-alone miniseries in 2015. 13 episodes of Heroes Reborn (no, not that Heroes Reborn) are on the docket, with Tim Kring, the original series’ creator, back in command. NBC’s press release is predictably vague on details, though NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke does suggest that some familiar faces may make an appearance.
Shows with that kind of resonance don’t come around often and we thought it was time for another installment. We’re thrilled that visionary creator Tim Kring was as excited about jumping back into this show as we were and we look forward to all the new textures and layers Tim plans to add to his original concept. Until we get closer to air in 2015, the show will be appropriately shrouded in secrecy, but we won’t rule out the possibility of some of the show’s original cast members popping back in.
NBC also mentioned that a “digital series” will pave the way for the show’s release, providing a bit of backstory. Last year, we reported on preliminary talks between NBC and MSN to create a reboot of the original, exclusively for Xbox. Given last night’s announcement, it’s fair to assume that project is no more, though the inclusion of a digital series implies that something may have grown out of it. A new stage of evolution, if you will.
The teaser trailer doesn’t give us much to go on, but if a logo’s enough to get you excited, have at it.
