This Hogwarts Mobile Game Keeps Looking Cooler and Cooler

We’ve been looking forward to the Harry Potter-inspired mobile game Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery for some time now. Now, finally, we have an official gameplay teaser trailer that is doing nothing to quell our excitement.

The new trailer gives us a look at what we can expect from the game, which seems to be a pretty solid mix of character development, big action, and smaller mini-challenges and quests.

From the look of the trailer, the game takes you through getting your owl bearing your Hogwarts acceptance letter to choosing your House to developing relationships with other characters, to working your way through your class schedule and learning new magical skills. And of course, there are big fights thrown in as well. This is Hogwarts, after all.

(I have to admit I had a moment of disappointment at learning that the sorting hat wouldn’t place players before realizing I would be far more upset if I had to go through the whole game in any House other than my chosen one. *Hufflepuff pride*)

We’d previously learned that the game would be set in the 1980s, although to be honest, those Hogwarts Robes don’t do much for distinguishing time period. But that does mean you won’t run into any familiar student characters. Presumably, that serves to keep the focus on you as a current student. If you were playing at the same time that Harry, Hermione, and Ron were students, well, that would have to be the point of the game, wouldn’t it?

For now, the game’s release is still scheduled for “sometime in 2018,” but pre-registration is now open on Google Play if you’d like to get updates.
