Japanese Gadget Alerts You When Your Dogs Get Too Hot
Note that we are referring to the animals and not the food, your tired feet, or friends of Xhibit.
It’s rough being a dog. Sure, you have no responsibilities in life other than being happy and running around, but when the temperature starts to rise, the only tool you have at your disposal is your tongue—unless your owner buys you a Petline Heat Index Checker for Dogs, of course.
While it’s currently a Japan-only product, the Petline is a pretty great idea for pet owners who prefer their interactions with their furry best friends to be a little more data-driven. The device attaches to a dog’s collar or cage and evaluates both the external temperature and the dog’s possible risk for heat stroke. When the risk becomes too high, the device lights up and buzzes to alert owners that maybe their dogs are about to get cooked and that they should probably take them somewhere cooler.
The Petline will be available to Japanese customers sometime in the next month, and the website is here if you’re thinking about using some kind of a proxy service. Of course, you could always try attaching a basic outdoor thermometer to your dog, but that’s not going to be nearly as adorable as this thing:
Protip! Put pawprints on a thing to make its cuteness increase by at least 150%.
Of course, it’s also important to keep an eye on your pets and not rely too much on fancy products to keep them safe. While technology can be super awesome, it’s better to be extra vigilant when your pets’ health is at stake. If you need to take them outside for exercise, make sure you do so early in the morning or at dusk when the temperature is usually cooler, and always have water on hand, for them and for you.
We’re sure Mr. Puggles will love you that much more for your efforts.
