New Freakish Trailer Brings Teen Horror to Hulu

Prepare to scream.

What if The Breakfast Club were made into a horror series? I’m not saying that’s what happened with Hulu’s new show Freakish, but there are some similarities to the film.

The story centers on a group of small town kids brought together for a Saturday detention. Bells ring, signaling a run-of-the-mill containment drill and evacuation, since they live near a huge chemical plant. Everyone retreats to the school fallout shelter until it’s over. However, when the sirens stop, they realize this was not a drill–their town has been destroyed by a massive explosion. With no sign of life outside the school, it’s the infected creatures who weren’t in the bunker that the survivors now have to worry about.

With teen romantic dramas dominating the scene, I really excited to see what Hulu does with the horror genre. Premiering October 10, the show puts digital influencers Hayes Grier, Liza Koshy, Meghan Rienks and Melvin Gregg alongside Degrassi’s Aislinn Paul, The Walking Dead’s Chad L. Coleman and Kickin’ It’s Leo Howard.
