In what definitely takes the cake as the most impressive fan-produced video I have ever seen, Mainstay Productions put together a short film chronicling the Second Quarter Quell, a flashback featured in Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games.
We’re warning you now, if you haven’t read the second book the video does contain some spoilers. If you have, I highly encourage you to watch the video. Yes, it has gore. It is, after all, a book about children being sent into an arena to fight to the death; the video does a good job in illustrating that. Consider it a training session for when the first full-length Hunger Games movie, due out this March.
The short film shows us Haymitch’s time in the Quarter Quell, and his journey towards winning the games. For all who’ve read the books, you know that Haymitch is not in the most stable of mental conditions twenty five years after his time in the arena, and for good reason, given the violence he was exposed to.
In the upcoming film adaptation, Woody Harrelson is set to star as the aged Haymitch (it’s unlikely we’ll see young Haymitch until the second film), with Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, Josh Hutcherson as Peeta Mellarck, Liam Hemsworth as Gale Hawthorne, and Elizabeth Banks as Effie Trinkett. Donald Sutherland will play President Snow, ruler of the Capitol and chief antagonist in the series.
It’s a long wait till March 23rd, though, and this thoroughly well-produced short is a great way to hold us over.
