Image Comics’ The Vault Gets Optioned for Film Deal
Buckle Buckle Swash Swash
Image Comics‘ The Vault has officially been optioned by GK Films. In case you’re wondering why this is intriguing news — besides the fact that a science fiction comic that takes place underwater is a fun change of pace — “GK” stands for Graham King, a name very closely associated with Infinitum Nihil, the production company of one Johnny Depp. King and Depp are frequent collaborators (they produced Rango together) and will be bringing The Vault to the big screen. (At least we know Depp has some experience in the sea, amirite?)
No, there is no official word that Depp will be part of the cast in the adaptation of the comic written by Sam Sarkar and drawn by Garrie Gastonny. So far, it seems that he’s only involved as a producer. At least, so far. A three-issue miniseries that first hit shelves in late July, The Vault follows the story of deep sea divers in Nova Scotia who “uncover a sarcophagus with unusual remains and inadvertently unleash an ancient evil.” Well, that sounds like a fun underwater romp!
However, as /Film points out, underwater = expensive. So, whenever this thing is going to be produced, it’s going to need a big budget to go with it. But further, Image Comics is also responsible for The Walking Dead, a title that was adapted to great success, so there’s a good possibility that it won’t be hard to come by.
