‘Invincible’ Season 2 Teases a 2023 Release

After a bloody and action-packed first season of Invincible, everyone is ready for more of the hit animated show. In the first season, we saw Korean American teenager Mark Grayson (played by Steven Yeun) come into his powers and learn how to use them as a part-time superhero. In addition to struggling to balance his personal life with his friends William (Andrew Rannells) and Amber (Zazie Beetz), Mark, a.k.a. Invincible, still can’t seem to be good enough for his superhero and alien father Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons.)

Based on the comic book series of the same name, Invincible is a compelling story with a no-holds-barred approach to showing violence in animation. The first season’s viewership grew exponentially week-by-week. You couldn’t escape Invincible by the time the season 1 finale premiered on April 29, 2021—which is also the day the creators confirmed they were greenlit for at least two more seasons.

When is season 2 coming?

At the time this video was posted, it was pretty clear we weren’t getting season 2 in 2022. In the animation process, audio comes first. The animation will take a while and shouldn’t be rushed because added pressure is how Atom Eve (Gillian Jacobs) ends up with that weird logo that is supposed to be a female symbol with electrons orbiting it, but instead was drawn like a female sign that’s been crossed out. Then again, Yeun could have been recording season 3 in that clip, and we’re being misled.

As of March 2022, Simmons (who plays the other main character) said in an interview that he was returning to the recording studio soon. Also, if D.A. Sinclair remains a significant part of the story and the production team rightfully decides to distance themselves from Ezra Miller, re-recording voiceovers could add time to the production schedule.

In his December 19 interview with Collider, Vernon Sanders, Head of Television at Amazon Studios, revealed that more episodes of the animated series were coming in 2023. Due to the amount of time that’s passed since the recording, and the fact that a date hadn’t been announced yet, was unlikely that we’ll get an early 2023 release. Season 2 is more likely to come out in the spring or summer. There’s even a theory, based on a June 22, 2022 tweet from the Invincible account, that the premiere, finale, or something will happen on July 14, 2023.

Was it a stretch? Yes. Was it also fun? Yes. On January 20, 2023, the Invincible trailer shared a major update, and the closest thing that wasn’t a straight-up tease—the show was coming in late 2023.
