iPhone 4 Torn Apart, 512 MB RAM Revealed
When the teardown enthusiasts at iFixit got their iPhone 4 in the mail, they wasted little time in doing what they do best: Pulling it apart bit by bit, examining those bits, and broadcasting their feat for the world to see. In the course of their investigation, they’ve found lots that will be of interest to diehard hardware enthusiasts (the battery isn’t soldered in place!), but their biggest finding is their confirmation that the iPhone 4 has 512 MB RAM, twice as much as both the iPhone 3GS and the iPad.
Other key findings: The iPhone 4 has a 1 GHz ARM Cortex A8 core processor, the same as is found in an iPad, and the front panel appears to be made of Corning’s formidable Gorilla Glass, “a chemically strengthened alkali-aluminosilicate thin sheet glass that is reported to be 20 times stiffer and 30 times harder than plastic.”
