Surprise! Somebody’s Already Jailbroken an iPhone 5
Well that didn’t take long. It’s been less than a day since the iPhone 5 was released to the public, and someone has already posted evidence that they’ve jailbroken Apple’s newest device. Grant Paul, a.k.a. chpwn, posted a picture on Twitter of Cydia, an App store for jailbroken iPhones, running on his shiny new iPhone 5. The kicker? He posted that picture less than 12 hours after Apple started selling the phone on yesterday morning.
Apple has made some radical changes to the latest model of the iPhone, but it looks like there’s no way to stop the jailbreaking public from hopping over the iOS fence. At this point, the fact that someone has found how to jailbreak an Apple device seems like a formality, but it’s still incredible how someone was able to pull it off so quickly. Then again, Apple hackers have been jailbreaking hardware and software in record time for little while now: Someone jailbroke iOS 6 on the first day of Apple’s closed developer beta.
Of course, as Gizmodo points out, the fact that an expert hacker has Jailbroken the new iPhone doesn’t mean there will be a readily available way for average users to do the same. That said, at this rate it looks like you’ll be able to crack that new iPhone very, very soon.
