Is Marvel’s ‘Blade’ Delayed?
This isn't sugarcoated topping type news.
Whether something is a reboot, requel, or remake—new content is welcome, as long as it doesn’t totally suck and fail its fans. With something like the Blade series, which is pretty important to Black horror nerds, you need the right people behind it. Given that it’s an action horror series with a Black vampire hybrid, casting an actor that’ll embody the character properly is very important. Therefore, having Mahershala Ali (Moonlight, Luke Cake Season 1, True Detective ect) play Blade this time around is exactly right.
Unfortunately, this reboot has run into some problems, such as director changes and a pushback in terms of the release date. It’s a shame that there hasn’t been a smooth release for this film. Occasionally these situations can help a film, and other times it doesn’t make a difference.
What’s Blade‘s current release date?
Originally the film was supposed to release in November 2022 on Disney Plus. But according to this Hollywood Reporter article, the release date has now been pushed to Sept. 6, 2024 because director Bassam Tariq has left the production and a new director hasn’t been found. What I will say is that a theater release would’ve been more exciting. Streaming services are convenient (albeit becoming incredibly expensive), but with a movie like this, a theatrical release would be a lot more fun. Imagine showing up to see the reboot of Blade at the theater. Seriously, imagine.
Where to watch the original series?
To prep yourself for a first watch or a rewatch of the series, here’s where you can find them:
- Blade (1998) on Apple TV
- Blade II (2002) on Crave TV, Apple TV, YouTube, Google Play, and Prime Video (premium subscription)
- Blade: Trinity (2004) on Crave TV, Apple TV, YouTube, Google Play, and Prime Video (premium subscription)
