Is ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Leaving Netflix?
Spoiler alert: yes.
If you want to see why Elena Gilbert is in the running for one of the best human love interests in all vampire media, you better binge Vampire Diaries soon. Why? Because the hit teen-vampire series will be leaving Netflix in September 2022. But don’t let that leave you crying tears of blood. If you can get a Netflix UK account, you can still watch it there. The series will also be up for renewal in January 2023, meaning like vampires themselves, the series could come back to life. In the meantime, if you want more blood sucking shenanigans, you could check out these movies if you have’t seen them already.
Also, if you’ll indulge me, I’m gonna get up on my soapbox and shamelessly declare Midnight Mass to be one of the best if not the best vampire show on Netflix of all time. The show does not have sexy vampires, no, but it does have one of the most phenomenal parables about organized religion I have ever seen. As a former Catholic, I have quite a few bits of constructive criticism for Christianity, but I never realized just how vampiric some Catholic beliefs are until watching this show. “Drink of my blood, the blood of the new and the everlasting covenant” is one of the many things Jesus says before he and the apostles tuck into a dinner of bread and wine at the Last Supper. But in case you didn’t know, Catholics believe that when the communion wine has been blessed by a priest, it turns into the literal blood of Jesus Christ. Yes, you read that correctly. Catholics believe that they are literally drinking the blood Jesus every Sunday. Midnight Mass takes this belief and mixes in one teensy little vampire and BAM: you get an absolutely stunning T.V. drama about the darker aspects of religious faith.
