ISS Astronauts Tweet a Bunch of Pictures of Massive Typhoon Neoguri
TL;DR: Astronauts are great at Twitter. Storms make us feel small.
Went right above Supertyphoon #Neoguri. It is ENORMOUS. Watch out, #Japan! https://t.co/BbwEE2yGIQ pic.twitter.com/IP9clunLF4

Whenever there’s a big weather event, you can count on the astronauts aboard the International Space Station to send out some pretty amazing pictures to put it into perspective. Although, unlike when you try to put a bad day into perspective, putting a hurricane or a typhoon into perspective mostly just makes them look even scarier and more awe inspiring.
As of this writing, the storm has hit Okinawa, Japan, and is making its way inland. Luckily, only 20 people in Okinawa were injured due to Neoguri’s heavy rains and 80 mph sustained winds with gusts up to 114 mph.

Scary. The sunlight is far from reaching down the abyss of #Neoguri‘s 65 km-wide eye pic.twitter.com/CpW7En8RHo — Alexander Gerst (@Astro_Alex) July 8, 2014
The #SuperTyphoonNeoguri did not even fit in our fisheye lens view. I have never seen anything like this. pic.twitter.com/tzlni7nKHP — Alexander Gerst (@Astro_Alex) July 8, 2014
#Neoguri update: looks like a big piece is missing from the #Typhoon. Amazing to see this happen in less than a day! pic.twitter.com/XkntmHD5lw — Alexander Gerst (@Astro_Alex) July 8, 2014
Looks like #Neoguri‘s eye is now closed, and one flank is missing #BlueDot pic.twitter.com/cg8EmE5UYd — Alexander Gerst (@Astro_Alex) July 8, 2014
