One of our favorite breakout shows of last year is back with an all-new season! Check out the first Season 2 trailer for HBO’s hit series, Insecure.
Now that Issa and Lawrence have broken up, Issa’s back in the dating pool and wackiness ensues. You know what else ensues? Drama, as the dude that she totally cheated on Lawrence with pops back into her life, and oh yeah, she’s decided she actually does want Lawrence back. Even though she didn’t seem particularly thrilled to be in a relationship with him in the first place. And she also wants to be free and have a “ho phase.” Oh, Issa.
Meanwhile, Molly has changed her attitude about romance, and is trying to be a “take things as they come” kind of girl. Her work life, however, is getting ever more complicated as she discovers that a white, male colleague at her law firm is making much more money than she is.
The season seems to be summed up in a quote from the trailer: “I know as black women it can feel like there’s a lot of things stacked against us. We feel invisible at work, we feel the pressure to have the perfect relationship…”
If Season 1 of Insecure was about giving us black female characters everyone can relate to while staying true to the nuances in the experiences of the black community, Season 2 is about going deeper into those nuances and tackling the specifics of the pressure that black women feel to be perfect and together at all times.
I am here for Season 2 of Insecure. Are you?
