Creepy First It Trailer Feels Part Stephen King, Part Stranger Things

Have fun never sleeping again.

Not that it should come as a surprise to anyone, but the new It trailer is the stuff of nightmares. It’s the amalgamation of everything you could ever fear in life (and fiction): prestige film beginning, unsuspecting youths, a sewer, a creepy clown, scary music and technology gone awry. Man, that Stephen King guy really knows his stuff.

I’m not ashamed to admit that even as an adult, this two and a half minute video had me ducking under the covers for safety (don’t forget to cover those toes!). However, there’s also something oddly familiar about it. Is it the near homogeneous group of kids riding bikes? Or the fact that their wardrobe is at least three decades old? Perhaps it’s that yet another frightening creature is snatching up kids in a relatively small town? I don’t know, but there’s definitely a familiar strangeness afoot.

Directed by Andrés Muschietti (Mama), the 2017 film is adapted from King’s 1986 novel and centers on seven kids tormented with their worst fears by a predatory being. It stars Jaeden Lieberher, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Sophia Lillis, Finn Wolfhard, Wyatt Oleff, Chosen Jacobs, Jack Dylan Grazer, Nicholas Hamilton, and Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise.  Look for it in theaters on September 8.

And if you’re in the mood for even more horrifying shenanigans, check out the 1990 mini-series starring John Ritter and Tim Curry. Or maybe don’t do that. Yes, not doing that also sounds good.
