Nintendo continues its slow, inexorable march towards dominating all of your free time. They’ve just recently announced that they’re working on bringing some of their most addictive, crowd-favorite titles to your mobile phone: Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing. That’s right, come this fall, you’ll be staring at your phone nearly every hour of every day! Or not. If you don’t like Nintendo games, I guess. But still. For the rest of us, we’ll be stuck tabbing between a game where you manage yourself and a bunch of other people through insurmountable odds and Fire Emblem. Yes, Nook’s debt can be considered an insurmountable odd, don’t you judge me. I never signed up for this, Nook!
But in all seriousness: it seems like Nintendo is poised to make some very serious moves into the mobile game market. They’ve already got one fairly well-received hit on their hands with Miitomo, the social game that functions a lot like Mii Plaza, except it’s on your phone. You collect friends, and performing activities with them earns you coins and things to buy clothes. If Miitomo stands as an example of what Nintendo can do with some original property stuff, then I’m actually pretty darn excited to see what Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing might look like.
Even though it’s seriously going to eat up all of my time why are you doing this to us Nintendo?
