J.J. Abrams Explains What We Saw, What Got Cut, and Whose Voices We Heard in Rey’s “Force-back”
I’m so glad I didn’t rush out to buy Star Wars: The Force Awakens the second it came out, because now there’s an all NEW Blu-Rey (dammit! I’ve caught Jessica’s pun!) coming out for the film that includes a 3-D version of the film (for those of you lucky enough to have 3-D televisions), plus all the commentary that should’ve been on the original Blu-Rey. This week’s Star Wars Show features, among other things, an exclusive bit of the commentary from the upcoming release explaining a very important moment in Rey’s life.
If you check out the video above at the 1:29 mark (or watch the whole thing, ’cause it’s a fun show!), the hosts introduce a clip from the commentary by director J.J. Abrams. In it, he’s talking about Rey’s “Force-back,” the moment when she touches Luke’s lightsaber and starts seeing all sorts of visions of which she has no understanding (but we do!).
There are some things that you’ve likely already picked out in your myriad viewings. However, Abrams also talks about a bit that got cut out when she’s in that Cloud City corridor, as well as the reasons behind the choices made for that entire sequence.
It really just makes me want to watch the film again, which I haven’t been able to since, as I said, I didn’t run out and get the first Blu-Rey. I guess I’ll have to wait until November 15th when the Star Wars: The Force Awakens 3-D Collector’s Edition comes out.
