J.K. Rowling Really Wants Us to Remember That Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Is NOT a Novel

Novel, schmovel. We're still hype.

Yesterday, Scholastic revealed that the script for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, the upcoming stage play and eighth story in the Harry Potter legacy, will be published on July 31st of this year. Naturally, fans did as fans do and reacted to the announcement with plans for book launch parties, rampant speculation, and general rejoicing, despite the fact that the The Cursed Child book will ‘just’ be the script of the play. For fans who might still be a little confused on that point, Rowling took to Twitter to reiterate that The Cursed Child is NOT a novel:

Although I appreciate Rowling setting the record straight for any fans who might have been confused on the details of yesterday’s announcement, there’s no way she’s going to diminish my hype. I’m just as excited to read a script from J.K. Rowling’s brain as I would be a new prose novel.

No matter what, The Cursed Child is still a continuation of The Harry Potter story from the master herself, and I’m excited to see how her dialogue for the stage will work on the page. I also love that Scholastic will be making The Cursed Child story accessible for people who can’t afford theater tickets and/or a trip to London.

Thoughts, friends?
