Chinese Pop Star Lu Han Released This Song About The Force Awakens

Recommended Videos

Many people who live in China have little familiarity with the Star Wars franchise, and since Disney is understandably pumped to continue breaking a bunch of box office records, they want to nurture a future Chinese fandom and help take The Force Awakens over the financial finish line. The movie doesn’t come out in China until this Saturday, and in an effort to drum up excitement about it, Chinese pop star Lu Han has just released a song about Star Wars: The Force Awakens, featuring himself as a Jedi.

The video sticks with footage from the trailer, so as not to spoil anything, and it intersperses those familiar scenes with shots of Jedi Lu Han posing with BB-8 and R2-D2. Last March, Disney granted Lu Han honorary Jedi status in the promotion of the film, so perhaps we should add him to the list of Asian heroes elevated by The Force Awakens? This music video probably qualifies more as, uh, “extended universe,” but still—he does look like a pretty cool Jedi in the video. The song’s delightfully corny and catchy, as well.

What do you think about this promotional tie-in? Are there any other fun Star Wars songs you can remember from promotions gone by? The one that sprang to mind for me was this 1977 disco version of the main theme—completely different style of music, obviously, but still a fun dance jam!
