Jennifer Garner Will Do An Alias Reboot On One Condition

I Want to Believe

The year 2001 was a big one for both Jennifer Garner and J.J. Abrams. The duo teamed up for the flashy spy drama Alias on ABC and neither could have predicted it would catapult them to stardom. They’d both had a significant amount of work on their resumes already but Alias was the perfect storm. Could it be time to revisit the property? Garner was recently asked just that and didn’t turn her nose up at the idea. On the contrary, she said she’d totally be done…on one condition.

Does Alias need a reboot? No, of course not. It was a complete series and while the last bit of the show faltered in many fans’ eyes, just the thought of seeing Sydney Bristow back in action gets my adrenaline pumping.

The actress spoke with Fretts on Film while promoting her latest film, The Odd Life of Timothy Green., but also got on the topic of Alias. The interviewer asked, if the show was rebooted somehow, would she want to be a part of it:

I think J.J. Abrams has got his hands full. I don’t see him turning around and rebooting Alias anytime soon. If  he was involved, I’m sure the rest of us would sign right up. We had a blast making that show and we’re all still superclose, so I’m sure you would find an eager group of participants right there.

Garner, who’s now a mother of three with husband Ben Affleck, hasn’t been in that many productions in recent years. In fact, I was just saying the other day that she needs to be in more. And of course we don’t blame her, she’s been busy, but I miss her bubbly personality and charm on screen.

Of her new film, Garner says it still may be a while before she let’s her children watch it. “My kids would love this movie and I’d be really excited to show it to them,” she said. “I don’t think they’re ready to see me so sad in something, so it might be a little while for mine. But I love the fact the fact that kids can see it—and that kids think it’s made for them and adults think it’s made for them.”

Garner and Alias are up there for me with La Femme Nikita, Xena, and Buffy for my favorite butt-kicking TV heroines. There’s no indication Abrams has any interest in going back to the drama but my mind is racing with possibilities! Something outside the established continuity perhaps? Although I’m sure Bradley Cooper would want his character Will to be much cooler this time around (not that we didn’t already think he was), thanks to his booming film career.

Aaaaaaaaand now I need to rewatch Alias.
