Jimmy Olsen Asks Comic-Con Attendees: Would Donald Trump or Lex Luthor Be a Better President?
Make Metropolis great again.
The results may (not) surprise you!
The 2016 presidential election in the United States seems kind of like bad dystopian fiction already, so why not just mash it up with fiction entirely? That’s what Gabe Diani of comedy team Diani and Devine (who we’ve covered previously) did at San Diego Comic-Con, where he—as Superman’s pal Jimmy Olsen—asked con-goers who would make a better president between fictional megalomaniac Lex Luthor and actual megalomaniac Donald Trump.
Supervillain or not, Luthor found himself with a bit of appeal in having a reputation for calculated, well-planned actions, unlike his hypothetical opponent—and probably in not being the nominee for the Republican party. (Don’t worry, though. We’ve already heard from Luthor himself on why he wouldn’t want the job anyway.)
There’s more sidekick parody fun to be had on Diani’s in-character Jimmy Olsen Twitter account (which is wonderful) and blog, and there’s also a Superman’s Pal, Jimmy Olsen parody series in the works. He told us over email: “After twenty years of being a cub reporter and ‘best boy pal’ of a certain strange visitor from another planet, Jimmy Olsen starts a webcam show to sell items from his world famous Superman Souvenir Collection in order to pay his bills and complain about his weird relationship with the Man of Steel. Barry Bostwick (The Rocky Horror Picture Show/Spin City) is going to be playing the older, creepier Superman who seems more than a little obsessed with America’s favorite aging teen sidekick. Currently in pre-production.”
