J.K. Rowling Puts Old House Up For Sale; Anyone Got £2.25 Million?

This is just like magic!

For a mere £2,250,000—approximately $3,658,500 in US dollars and an unknown quantity in galleons but probably enough to make Griphook go all hearteyes—you, yes you, can own the Edinburgh house where J.K. Rowling wrote much of the Harry Potter series. The author has put the house, where she lived with her husband and three children before moving to the village of Barnton in 2009, on the market, and while it’s no Hogwarts, the place still sounds pretty cool. (Of course it does. This is J.K. “Richer than the Queen” Rowling, after all.)

In addition to having five double bedrooms (not sure what makes a bedroom “double,” but OK), a drawing room, fancy landscaped gardens and a library, the home is outfitted with a high-tech security system and a concealed door leading to the house elf staff quarters.

Reads the house’s sales brochure:

Internally, period features such as flagstone floors, elegant plasterwork including detailed cornices, dado and picture rails, period fireplaces and sash and case astragal windows, are complemented by a traditionally styled kitchen, contemporary bathrooms, glass partitions, French doors, under-floor heating and a high level security system.

I don’t know what half of that means (astragal windows?), but it sure sounds Hogwartian. Actually, it probably has better security than Hogwarts, which seems remarkably easy to sneak into at times.

So here’s what I say, TMS readers: We pool all our funds and rent getaway vehicles fast enough to avoid getting arrested when we’re inevitably caught trespassing in the house where Harry Potter was written. Who’s with me?
