Margot Robbie is assembling a team of badass women in front of and behind the camera for her Birds of Prey movie. We already know that Robbie, who is producing as well as reprising her role as Harley Quinn, is looking to cast actresses for the roles of Black Canary, Huntress, Cassandra Cain, and Renee Montoya. Now, there are rumours that Killing Eve‘s Jodie Comer could be joining the cast as Black Canary/Dinah Lance.

Comer’s role as queer assassin Villanelle was arguably the most talked about television performance of 2018 so far. The character shifts unpredictably between whimsical and psychotic, giving us a wildly original antagonist. It also helps that the show is brilliantly written by Fleabag‘s Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who gives us a spy thriller with equal parts comedy and heartbreak. While the series and star Sandra Oh earned Emmy noms, Comer was snubbed to fans’ dismay.

Also on the rumoured shortlist for Black Canary is Mission: Impossible — Fallout‘s Vanessa Kirby, who is perhaps best known as Princess Margaret on The Crown. Kirby is an excellent actress in her own right, and would make a great addition to the cast as well. But now that Comer is in the mix, it’s hard to see anyone else taking on the Black Canary mantle.

In addition to Canary casting rumours, Alexandra Daddario (Baywatch) is said to be circling the role of Huntress/Helena Bertinelli. Daddario has appeared in San Andreas and the first season of True Detective, but has yet to land a major breakout role.

So far, we haven’t heard anything about the casting of Cassandra Cain or Renee Montoya, although frontrunners are certain to be named soon. In addition, we don’t know who the villain will be, with our only hint being that it’s a member of the rogues’ gallery who has yet to make their live-action debut (my money’s on Clayface). Who would you like to see in the roles, and what villain do you want to see brought to the big screen?
