You've got that song stuck in your head now. You know the one.

John Williams will be returning to score Star Wars: Episode VIII and Indiana Jones 5. This doesn’t come as much of a surprise or anything, but it’s just really nice to hear it confirmed. It’s true, many of us can’t imagine either of these movies without his practiced hand guiding the emotionally charged score. But what’s particularly exciting about these confirmations is the reason why Williams wants to come back for Episode VIII, and it has to do with Daisy Ridley.
In what is perhaps the most heartwarming thing said by a composer about the people he writes music for, Williams said, “If I can do it, I certainly will. I told Kathy Kennedy I’m happy to do it, but the real reason is, I didn’t want anybody else writing music for Daisy Ridley.” Be still, my heart.
You’ll likely remember Rey’s downright iconic theme song, and Williams’ take on what went into creating it. It’s one of my most favorite things about The Force Awakens, and it’s something I listen to almost on the regular. Hearing that he’ll be back on to make even more iconic music for Episode VIII just makes me super happy.
As for Indiana Jones 5, I feel much the same way. There are a few things you don’t really mess with in the Indiana Jones franchise: his hat, his whip, and the damn music. Williams is a treasure, for sure, and one that I’m sure plenty of people appreciate.
