May the force (or is it the four?) be with you.

After about a year of working with Disney and Lucasarts, Josh Trank, who was set to direct a Star Wars Anthology sequel, has decided to leave the director’s chair to pursue other projects. Whatever projects they are, they’d better be good.

In a post on StarWars.com on Friday, Josh Trank shared his sentiments and why he’s choosing to find other galaxies, far, far away. He said:

After a year of having the incredible honor of developing with the wonderful and talented people at Lucasfilm, I’m making a personal decision to move forward on a different path. I’ve put a tremendous amount of thought into this, and I know deep down in my heart that I want to pursue some original creative opportunities. That said, the Star Wars universe has always been one of my biggest influences, and I couldn’t be more excited to witness its future alongside my millions of fellow Star Wars fans.

It’s hard to imagine what other projects or creative opportunities Trank could be going after. He directed the Fantastic Four reboot that is coming out later this summer, and he helmed the director’s chair on the found-footage superhero film Chronicle.

Rumors abound about his absence from a Star Wars Celebration panel, suggesting tensions between him and Lucasfilm. But one thing is for sure: wherever he goes next must be really good if it’s enough to tempt someone from the glowing embrace of the Star Wars universe.

That being said, who do you think should replace Trank? And where do you think he’s headed to next?
