Joss Whedon on Chances He’ll Direct Avengers: Infinity War, “I Couldn’t Imagine Doing This Again”
Maybe he could just cameo?
We’re all anxiously awaiting Avengers: Age of Ultron but there are at least two more Avengers films from Marvel on the way. Joss Whedon might need a nap though, so you’ll have to find someone else to direct them.
ComicBookMovie.com pulled a bit from Empire Magazine (we posted their Ultron covers earlier today) in which Whedon talks about the cost of doing superhero business and what that means for who might take the helm for Avengers: Infinity Wars:
I couldn’t imagine doing this again… It’s enormously hard, and it’d be, by then, a good five years since I created anything that was completely my own. So it’s very doubtful that I would take on the two-part Infinity War movie that would eat up the next four years of my life. I obviously still want to be a part of the Marvel Universe – I love these guys – but it ain’t easy. This year has been more like running three shows than any year of my life. It is bonkers.
Not very surprising, is it? If memory serves, his exclusive deal with Marvel is through 2015. Plus, these films are no easy feats. I could absolutely see Whedon stepping into an executive producer role for the next two though. On the other hand, back in 2012 he was torn about taking on the sequel to The Avengers too. Time will tell and we have a little while for him to decide fully – Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 has a release date of May 4, 2018.
Would you want to see Whedon in the director’s chair for Avengers: Infinity War or should he take a vacation?
