Julie Andrews Announces Julie’s Greenroom, a New Netflix Series With the Jim Henson Company

Julie Andrews co-created a new series for Netflix called Julie’s Greenroom with her daughters Emma Walton Hamilton, and Judy Rothman-Rofe, and will also star alongside a new puppet troupe by the Jim Henson Company called the “Greenies.” The series is geared towards preschoolers and “all about the performing arts.” (When I first saw the announcement I thought it was a reference to the punk horror movie Green Room and got really confused. Thank goodness it’s not.)

Variety states that Andrews will play “the leader of a performing arts company” creating shows that feature music, dance, writing, the circus etc. as well as “original music and guest stars including Alec Baldwin, Sara Bareilles, Joshua Bell, Tituss Burgess, Carol Burnett, Chris Colfer, Robert Fairchild, Josh Groban, David Hyde Pierce, Bill Irwin, Ellie Kemper and Idina Menzel.” That’s a pretty awesome list of names!

Netflix’s director of global kids content Andy Yeatman says, “It’s been such an incredible treat to work with Julie on this project. This show is all about awakening children’s interest in the performing arts while introducing a new era of puppets to the viewers.” Andrews says the new show “represents the fulfillment of a long held dream to educate children about the wonder of the arts.”

Julie’s Greeroom just began shooting last month, and thirteen 30-minute episodes are set for an early 2017 release. Are you going to check it out?
