Jurassic Park 4 Should Be In Theaters In Less Than Two Years According To Producer
hold on to your butts
We’re big fans of Jurassic Park here at The Mary Sue and we salivate like a Dilophosaurus whenever new information is released. Like today, when we found out a general idea of when Jurassic Park 4 would actually be in theaters. Read on to hear what else producer Frank Marshall had to say about the project.
The last big news we heard about JP4 was Rise of the Planet of the Apes screenwriters Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver taking on the script but we have news today thanks to Spielberg’s friend and producer Marshall who spoke with Collider briefly while being interviewed about The Bourne Legacy. “I would say that it will be on the screen within two years,” he said when asked for a status update about JP4.
Collider writes, “Marshall went on to reveal that they’re aiming for a summer release since it’s a ‘popcorn movie,’ and confirmed that it’s definitely a sequel and not a reboot or remake.”
Releasing JP4 in 2014 means it will be up against the likes of Maleficent, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Amazing Spider-Man 2, the X-Men: First Class sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, not to mention Jaffa and Silver’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Not all of those are summer releases of course, but we saw the effect one blockbuster can have on another this year when the Bourne film was moved further from The Avengers date and G.I. Joe Retaliation was held back until next year. I wonder if they’ll take the schedules into account when moving forward with JP4?
Regardless, everyone is still very excited for the film. Marshall is excited about what new technologies will do for the project. “That’s what’s gonna be great about it, technology’s taken a leap now that we can really do some great things,” he said. My only hope is they don’t rely on CGI, the animatronic and puppet dinosaurs in the original Jurassic Park are what made the film so great. But there is hope on that front. Collider writes, “Marshall added that using practical dinosaurs not only feels real to the audience, but aids the actors in their performances.”
